REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- Maluku Police Reskrimsus Directorate conducts cyber patrols on social media in anticipation of spreading hoaxes and hate speech ahead of the 2024 General Election (Election).

The cyber patrol is carried out by Ditreskrimsus personnel who are part of the Gakkum Cyber Subtask Team of Operation Mantap Brata (OMB) Salawaku Polda Maluku 2024.

“For 14 days, the cyber team has been conducting OMB on a number of social media. Since October 1, 2023 until today, no accounts have been found that spread hoaxes and hate speech and other violations of ITE Law,” said Maluku Police Public Relations Spokeperson M Roem Ohoirat, in Ambon, Wednesday (1/11/2023).

He said all social media was browsed, including YouTube and Snack Video. “Many communications were found that were both opinions and responses to the Constitutional Court (MK) Decision No. 90 of 2023 on the minimum age limit of the President and Vice President,” he said.

Another widely found opinion also related to the existence of an Honorary Court Hearing of the Court for alleged violations of the Code of Conduct of the Court Judges regarding the minimum age limit of the President and Vice President.

“As for the implementation of medsos patrols by the cyber subtask force, so far no criminally charged communications have been found, neither insults, satas, nor hate speech and false news that can cause distress among the public,” he said.

Roem appealed to the public to remain wise in the use of medsos especially communications - electronic communications related to the stages of Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections. “Sage in medsos is important to continue to be observed in order to create a safe and comfortable situation in the Moluccas,” he asked.
