REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Communications and Informatics (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi invites people in Indonesia to carry out smart campaigns and not spread hoaxes in order to realize the peaceful 2024 elections.
“We appeal to the people, let's campaign be smart. Highlight each other's partner and do not make slander or fuss that is far from the facts,” Budi said at the Office of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Central Jakarta, Friday (19/1/2024).
One month ahead of the 2024 election, the Ministry of Cominfo is still finding hoaks in the digital space with issues of the 2024 election. However, when compared to the 2019 general election, the number of issues of hoaxes of the 2024 election were found to be much less.
Nevertheless, Menkominfo also continues to invite Indonesians to utilize digital space to remain productive and safe during the 2024 elections so that the goal of peaceful elections can be achieved. Menkominfo did not detail the number of hoaxes found before one month of the 2024 election, however, during January 2023 to January 2024, the Ministry of Cominfo found 201 hoaxes concerning the 2024 election.
There have also been no findings on the issue of 2024 election hoaxes that are unsettling and unlawful. He mentioned by far the hoaks related to the issue of the 2024 election that the most maximally handled by his side ended in content disconnection.
“Until now, nothing has been processed, but, where there is something related to legal proceedings, for example, the accuser, then, if he has entered the realm of law, he is reported to be processed by law,” Budi said.
If the hoax found meet the provisions of the violation of the law, the police will process the case. In dealing with hoaxes related to the 2024 election, the Ministry of Cominfo consistently handles hoaxes by receiving hoax reports, identifying, and disabling access to related content if it proves to contain no facts and meets the elements of hoaxes.
