REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology Surabaya (ITS) team came out as the overall champion in the Indonesia Energy Marathon Challenge (IEMC) energy-efficient car competition 2013 ending here on Sunday.
"The victory was made after the ITS teams won four of the six events (two categories) competed in the final day," IEMC organizing committee secretary Kenan Sihombing said.
The competition attended by 53 teams from 30 universities from across Indonesia was held at Kenjeran Circuit Park from November 15-17.
Kenan said in the prototype category the ITS team was ranked first in the diesel category and second in the gasoline category races but in the electric category race it was beaten by teams from UI (Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta) and UPI (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung).
"In the urban class the ITS team was ranked first in diesel, gasoline as well as electric categories," the engineering student of ITS said.
In the gasoline prototype category race Nakoela Hore UI from UI recorded 1,027.4650 kilometer per liter while ITS Team 1 from ITS recorded 677.9639 kilometer per liter.
In the prototype diesel category ITS Team 4 from ITS recorded 399.2818 kilometer per liter while none was ranked second.
In the prototype electric category Arjuna Hore UI recorded 252.4328 kilometer per kilowatt hour and Bumi Siliwangi 3 from UPI 236.9837 km/kwh.
In the urban gasoline category ITS Team 3 recorded 191.1462 kilometer per liter and Bengawan from UNS (Universitas Sebelas Maret, Solo) recorded 135.8922 km/lt.
In the urban diesel category ITS Team 2 recorded 191.9998 kilometer per liter and Semar Urban from UGM (Universitas Gajahmada, Yogyakarta) recorded 111.8151 km/lt.
In the urban electric category Nagageni 2 of ITS recorded 10.1006 km/kwh and Cikal Cakrawali EV from ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung) 69.2053 km/kwh.
"Besides best record title the committee also awards best design, best video and best team titles which are announced at the closing ceremony at Robotika Building at ITS Surabaya," he said.
This was the second IEMC held by the ITS Technical Engineering Department with support from the Directorate General of High Learning Institute of the Ministry of Education.
ITS has come out as the overall champion in the two competitions.
In the final day of the IEMC 2013 which was also attended by Education Minister Mohammad Nuh, the Apatte 62 Brawijaya Team 1 in the prototype electric car category failed in the race due to technical problems making the car hit the balloon gate start line.
