Bodies of missing Air Asia QZ8501 still in vessels

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has evacuated seven bodies who are suspected as victims of missing Air Asia flight QZ8501. The bodies are still in evacuating vessels due to bad weather.

"The bodies are still in the vessels," Head of Basarnas, FH Bambang Soelistyo, said on Wednesday, December 31.

Six of the bodies are in Banda Aceh Indonesian Navy Vessels, while another one is in Malaysian vessel. Four of them are identifies as male. The remaining are female.

Basarnas sent two helicopters to bring the bodies to Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan. However, bad weather hampered the process. Soelistyo said, the search would still be continued despite the bad weather. He will send divers to search bodies and debris if the weather gets better.

Meanwhile, Local Hospital Imanuddin in West Kotawaringin is ready to accept the bodies. "We are still waiting," Director of the hospital, Suyuti Syamsul, said. The hospital has prepared a room to identify the bodies as well as coffin and aluminum foil.
